What Texas weather does to roofs in Austin
Austin roofs get hit from two sides. Spring storms can bring hail and strong wind that crack shingles, knock granules loose, and dent vents and gutters. Then the long, hot summers bake the roof day after day, which dries out shingles and makes them brittle faster.
Hail damage isn’t always easy to see. A bruised shingle can look fine from the street but lose its protective granules and start leaking months later. Heat works slowly too: sealant strips weaken, nails back out, and flashing pulls away from walls and chimneys. That’s why a close look after a storm, or every few years on an older roof, is worth it.
Repair or replace?
Not every roof problem needs a new roof. A few torn shingles, a leaking pipe boot, or loose flashing around a chimney can usually be repaired for far less than a replacement. If the damage is limited to one area and the rest of the roof still has life in it, a repair is often the smart call.
Replacement makes sense when the damage is spread across several slopes, when shingles are brittle and losing granules everywhere, or when the roof keeps leaking in new places after repairs. We look at the whole roof, then tell you which one it needs and why. If it can be fixed, we say so.
Thinking about a metal roof?
Metal is a popular choice in Austin because it handles heat and wind well and sheds water fast. It costs more up front than shingles, so it isn’t right for every house or every budget. We install shingle, metal, tile, and flat roofs, so we can walk you through the trade-offs for your house without pushing one option.
What to check from the ground after a storm
You can spot a lot without a ladder. After a hail or wind storm, walk around the house and look for:
- Shingles that are missing, lifted, folded, or sitting in the yard.
- Dents on gutters, downspouts, vents, and the AC unit, a sign hail hit the house.
- Piles of shingle granules at the bottom of the downspouts.
- Bent or loose flashing around the chimney and roof edges.
- New water stains on ceilings or around upstairs windows.
- Stay on the ground. Don’t climb a wet or damaged roof. Take photos from the yard and call us.
How the free inspection works
Call or text (737) 414-9043, or fill out the form below. We set a time, come out to your house in Austin or a nearby town, and look at the roof, gutters, flashing, and any spots that worry you. Then we tell you plainly what we found and what it needs: a repair, a replacement, or nothing yet. There is no charge for the visit, and no pressure.
If you move forward, we tell you the days before we start. Most houses are started and finished in one day. We clean up the yard when we leave.
Storm damage and insurance
We inspect storm and hail damage, document what we find with photos, and can meet your adjuster at the house. We don’t file or negotiate your claim, and nobody can promise what insurance will pay. If the roof needs repair or replacement, we do the work. The claim itself stays between you and your insurance company.
